While supporting Field Projects, our
Research Assistants execute on field, shadehouse, and seed-handling operations
to meet the quality, quantity, and timeline targets for project deliverables.
Research Assistants must be comfortable using computers and mobile devices, and
be interested in working both indoors and in the field. Our Research Assistants
must also be comfortable using computers and mobile devices. Most importantly,
our ideal candidates need a collaborative attitude, good communication and
critical thinking skills, and a commitment to quality.





Duties include, but are not limited to, the
following:






+ Perform all tasks associated with the year-round production ofhigh quality seed in sufficient quantities, which mayinclude:


+ Planting, transplanting, irrigating, scouting for insects anddiseases, complex pollinating, harvesting, drying, shelling, filling seedpackets, and processing seed.

+ Observing agronomic condition of plants, interpreting andreporting any abnormalities.

+ Taking notes and collecting data.



+ Ensure that all work is performed in a safe and efficientmanner in accordance with experiment instructions, research protocols, companypolicies, and regulations.

+ Communicate regularly and openly with the team and supervisorsabout workflow and experiment status, especially when there are questions orproblems.

+ Complete routine and moderately complex duties withoutinstruction in a timely manner and apply judgment to resolve any roadblocks tocompletion.

+ Help produce and use maps, labels, envelopes, row tags, sampletags and selection tags for plants.

+ Ensure that all work is performed in a safe and efficientmanner in accordance with experiment instructions, research protocols, companypolicies, and regulations.

+ Communicate regularly and openly with the team and supervisorsabout workflow and experiment status, especially when there are questions orproblems.

+ Participate in protocol development and process improvementprograms (safety, efficiency, effectiveness).

+ Support all Waimea Research Center-wide goals andinitiatives. Interact and assist other projects at the location asneeded.

+ Promote positive work attitudes and harmoniousrelations.

**Qualifications**



**The following are required:**






+ High School Diploma orGED

+ Ability and willingness to work outdoors andindoors in hot, cold, dry, and wet environmentalconditions

+ Ability and willingness to lift up to 50 lbs.with or without reasonable accommodation

+ Ability and willingness to work overtime,weekends, and holidays as needed

+ Basic mathematical skills andexperience

+ Ability to use computers, iPads, and mobiledevices

+ Working Knowledge of Microsoft Officeprograms



**The following are preferred:**






+ Associates Degree in Agriculture or relatedfield

+ Agriculture experience

+ Valid driver's license
