Under minimum supervision, operate and monitor systems and perform operator maintenance on technical systems including calibrate, repair, troubleshoot, modify, test and install communications and networking systems and equipment. Must be familiar with the communications, video and network systems and equipment or industry equivalents assigned to the Barking Sands, Makaha Ridge and Kokee communications facilities.


Specific assignments and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:

+ Sets-up, checks-out, operates and monitors systems and equipment for Range Operations support. Responds to changing operational requirements when directed.

+ Assists other technicians in periodic inspections and maintenance tasks in accordance with published procedures and/or OEM guidelines. Documents results of all maintenance actions in systems and equipment records.

+ Assists other technicians in troubleshooting and repair of systems/equipment by reading and interpreting electronic/mechanical schematics and using simple and complex test equipment.

+ Assists in preparation of monthly system reports, preventive maintenance logs and other logs or reports reflecting day-to-day operations.

+ Assists in the installation, check-out, calibration and acceptance tests on new and relocated systems and equipment, as directed.

+ Assist in COMSEC matters including accounting, destruction and courier services for classified and cryptographic materials.

+ Set-up fill devices and keys cryptographic equipment throughout the PMRF project as required

+ Must be able to complete appropriate Information Assurance (IA) technical training and certification as required.

+ Maintains configuration control on assigned systems.

+ Performs other duties as required.

+ Must be available for occasional travel for operations and maintenance support at other locations throughout the State of Hawaii.


Physical Activities:

Minimum physical elements: to include walking, standing, crawling, kneeling or cramped, work requiring repeated stooping and work requiring repeated or frequent climbing. Lifting, pushing or pulling of over 50 lbs. (two men assist). Customer contact, Extended work day, confined work area, office laboratory, Field assignment, and inclement weather.


+ Must be able to lift, carry, install and remove electronics equipment and peripherals up to 50 lbs.

+ Must be able to climb elevated towers and work in sub-floor areas and crawl spaces in performing maintenance inspections and troubleshooting tasks.


Education: 2 Year Technical School or equivalent training, such as Navy "A" school specializing in Electronics Systems


+ Four years of progressive experience in a related field with a minimum of two year's experience operating and maintaining communications, video and/or networking systems and equipment.

+ 2 years of working with Windows based OS and UNIX platforms.

+ 2 years of using and interpreting results of simple and complex test equipment used in communications, video and networking and environments such as O-scopes, power meters, spectrum analyzers, multi-meters, BER Testers, ATM testing and diagnostic equipment.

+ 2 years of experience in electronics theory and applications with emphasis in communications and network troubleshooting and repair.

+ 2 years of experience in reading and interpreting schematic diagrams for troubleshooting and repair.

+ Must have a soldering certificate from a commercial firm, technical school or Navy school.

+ Must be familiar with OSI 7 Layer model.

+ Must possess the following PC skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Windows.
